The Procurement of the Specimens

Farm-raised means the butterflies are raised from pupae in a large-screened area. The caterpillars are fed the fauna of choice and spend weeks going thru their stages of life. A portion is released to their native habitat and a portion is sent to an insect dealer for distribution.  A family in New Guinea can supplement their income by this practice and protect their land and fauna at the same time for future generations.

Ranch-raised is when a portion of a family or villages land is over-planted with the host plant of choice for butterflies and moths.  The over-planting brings in the butterflies and then sustains the caterpillars that them become more butterflies.  There are very few natural predators because the area is active with children and general living going on, thus the insects thrive.
